Formation of India as a Nation:
We
are nearing 75 years of "Azadi": The narratives of freedom struggle,
freedom fighters of various hues, partition et al were a necessity in the
earlier years to consolidate our Nationhood. We must now look at the
"history' with hindsight of 20/20.
The British
directly ruled 45% of the Indian Subcontinent administered thru 13 Provincial governments (read State Governments). The British withdrew in
Aug 1947, and passed on the sovereignty of these 13 Provinces to two
entities called India and Pakistan, albeit partitioning two, namely Punjab
and Bengal. Two more nations joined the other independent nations, like
Nepal, Bhutan, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Hyderabad, Mysore, Travancore, Junagarh
Jodhpur, Coochbehar and about 550 others on the
Indian Subcontinent.
On these
'bare facts' we need to build new narratives so that the Governance
Structures of the successor nations (Seven?) work to ensure a pleasant life
journey for their respective Praja. And we 'survive as a Nation to celebrate our 150th.
