Kashmir

Nawaz Sharif Thanks Separatist Asiya Andrabi for Backing Pakistan on Kashmir
"Pakistan does not consider Kashmir to be a geographical or border dispute but a dispute due to the unfinished business of Partition of the subcontinent in 1947," Mr Sharif writes in his letter to Ms Andrabi, who heads the outfit Dukhtaran-e-Millat.

Saadat Hasan Manto had posed the existential dilemma of a newly minted Pakistani soldier, in 1947 :
"Were Pakistanis fighting for Kashmir or for Kashmiri Muslims?" And Rub Nawaz wonders "If the latter, why not fight for the Muslims of Hyderabad and Junagarh?" And "if this was purely a war for Islam, why weren't other Muslim countries fighting alongside of them?"    These matters, he concludes were far too subtle for the intelligence of an ordinary soldier.

Anupam Kher's March for India

I am aghast at the slogans chanted during the March. “…….deserved to be thrown across Wagah border” “Dhongi sahityakaron ko, jute maro saalo ko”.

What did Anupam Kher expect for fronting the likes of YOGI Adityanath JI and his ilk? Doesn’t that prove the case of Award Returnees?

The labelling of this debate as ‘tolerance’ or ‘intolerance’ has obfuscated the “intimidation” by the fringes of Sangh Parivar’, that is being protested against.

Bhairavi singh being called names….Just imagine the fright the poor girl must have experienced.

Anupam Kher extended an apology to Bhairvi Singh; there is some decency left in his otherwise probably uxorious behavior over the last few weeks.

And our dear PM has also revealed his hand by receiving the leaders of this March. “Indian culture goes beyond tolerance, and talks of acceptance”, the PMO said. Do they mean Indian Culture enjoins us to accept whatever the ruling dispensation dishes out?

The PM is an excellent CEO and the Indian economy sorely needs his touch and shepherding. It will be a shame if the Indian masses miss out on a chance to earn square meals with dignity, due to his not so tacit (any more) cultural ethical and moral disabilities.

It appears that the PM wishes to make the “body Indian” strong and prosperous but lobotomized and an arm amputated.

Bihar has given him its verdict.

A line of Hope from Pakistan

Khalid Ahmed, a Consulting Editor at Newsweek Pakistan, concludes his article in IE of 25th Sept 15, with ...
Quote "The Civilian mind, in league with the world outside, thinks of economic benefits of being in the facilitating middle, which means Pakistan should focus on its economy and postpone its revisionist programme. The old mindset is changing as Pakistan finally gets ready to set right its internal landscape of non-state actors doing an inverted jihad on Pakistan" Unquote

Postpone ....? or shelve ?

The Proposed IIM Act / Regualtion-

In the current political atmosphere plain resistance - a complete NO - may be counter productive. Positions may harden, to the detriment of the "weaker' party, namely IIMs.
We must take this as an opportunity to make "improvements"
Let the Govt have the Apex Council with a monitoring role - No prescriptions please. After all the Govt does provide funds.

The management experts and the Organisational Design experts of IIMs should put their heads together to devise proposals that help IIMs while provide suitable 'face saving' to Mama Irani. ( I read her as a very obstinate person)

I also believe that with proliferation of IIMs the brand is bound to get diluted. It is high time each of the Institution should plan 'renaming' and re-branding itself.

LK Advani' Emergency Bell

Mr Lal Krishan Advani the founding member of Bhartiya Janta Party, and leading light of the Indian right-wing said in a recent interview, quote, “Today, I do not say that the political leadership is not mature. But, kamiyon ke karan, vishwas nahin hota. I don’t have the confidence that it (emergency) cannot happen again”

Advani ji, now a member of the “margadarshak mandal” of the BJP, relevance questioned, is THE architect of BJP’s relevance in Indian Politics, thru Rath Yatra, lead by him in 90, which charged up the polito-religious atmosphere to such a high pitch that the Babri Masjid, the Structure, was demolished, in Dec 1992.

This defining event lead to the retaliation across the country from Muslims leaving thousands dead, properties destroyed, nay many ordinary lives destroyed.  In my view it cost LKA his shot at PM.

And on deeper reflection, Mr Advani ended up praising Mr Mohamed Ali Jinnah, a very smart sharp lawyer whose insistence on creating Pakistan resulted in loss of million lives; again countless lives destroyed. That further lightened his claim to the PM’s gaddi.

And his readings of the mood of his own party and the country lead to him sulking for months, sitting out the meetings of BJP in 2013.

Let us assume that socio-political insights put out in the public domain by this octogenarian political sage do come to pass, for once. It majorly concerns the ‘pundits” and politicians: they may have to constrain their pens and tongues, and suffer reduced incomes.

The people in the social strata below the intelligentsia and political elite sense that economic wellbeing of the common people is finally moving centre stage.

People sense that the civil liberties that are purportedly endangered by the current dispensation are worthless to them till they achieve a modicum of economic and financial security.

Enforced discipline of an ‘emergency” increases the chances of quicker economic growth, a’la, “trains ran on time”
